The Large Onyx Big Green Egg is a special edition finished in a deep black glaze - the first EGG in fifty years to come in anything other than racing green and built with the new Quick Light Kit for a faster, cleaner light every time.

A new colour, fifty years in the making

Every Big Green Egg has worn the same racing green since the first one rolled out fifty years ago. The Onyx breaks that run. It's named after the gemstone for its inky, near-black gleam, but there's a hint of green worked into the glaze - a nod to where it came from. It's a change built on customer demand, not a rebrand.

Quick Light Kit

The Onyx is the first EGG to come with the new Quick Light Kit as standard. The Quick Light Tool slides in through the Draft Door and lights the coals from below, while the new stainless steel grate improves airflow and makes ash disposal easier. Add a pack of Speedilight Sticks and the coals catch quicker and cleaner, with a more even heat once they're going.

Dual Zone System

The Large Onyx also comes fitted with the new Dual Zone System, using the Dual Zone Basket and half-moon ceramic deflectors and grids to split the EGG into two independent cooking zones. Sear over direct heat on one side while something else cooks low and slow on the other, all in the one EGG.

The Large Onyx works from low-and-slow temperatures of around 100°C up to 300°C and beyond for searing and pizza. It reaches cooking temperature in about 20 minutes.
