Who is the YETI Roadie 60 Wheeled Cool Box best for?

This is the large wheeled Roadie for group days out, weekends away, beach trips, camping, fishing and bigger boat or pontoon gatherings. It has space for food, drinks and ice for a crew, including upright packing for most standard wine bottles and two-litre bottles. If you mainly need a compact cooler for one or two people, the Roadie 48 or Roadie 24 may be easier to live with.

How easy is it to move when full?

The Roadie 60 is built for moving heavier loads, with a retractable Periscope Handle and solid NeverFlat wheels. That makes it much easier than carrying a large loaded cool box by hand, especially across campsites, car parks and pontoons. It is still a substantial cooler at 13.9 kg empty, so think about lifting it in and out of a car or boat before loading it fully.

Is the Roadie 60 leakproof?

No. The drain plug is designed as a leakproof barrier for draining melted ice, but the cooler itself is not leakproof if it ends up on its side or upside down. It is best kept upright and secured in transit, especially in a car, cockpit or on deck. If leakproof performance is essential, a Hopper soft cooler may be a better choice.

What does it come with, and do I need accessories?

It comes with one removable dry goods basket, which is useful for keeping sandwiches, snacks or smaller items above the ice. The cooler can take two baskets, but extra baskets and accessories such as a cup caddy, ice blocks and tie-down kit are sold separately. For boat or trailer use, tie-down slots make it easier to secure properly.

How does it keep food and drink cold?

The Roadie 60 uses thick insulation, a close-fitting lid system and a freezer-quality gasket to help hold the cold when packed well. Pre-chilling the cooler, using plenty of ice or ice blocks, and limiting how often the lid is opened will all help. The QuickLatch design is handy when people need regular one-handed access during a busy day outside.
