The Hopper Flip 8 fits a 1lb Medium Ice Sheet perfectly in the base. These really help to enhance the thermal retention of the cooler.

The Hopper Flip 8 is the smallest YETI cooler bag in this range, so it suits solo trips, day hikes, paddleboarding, fishing and a compact lunch-and-drinks setup. It is sized for a personal lunch and drinks rather than a full family day out. If you are packing for two people or a longer day, the Hopper Flip 12 or Hopper Flip 18 may be a better fit.

Is the Hopper Flip 8 leakproof?

The Hopper Flip 8 uses YETI’s Hydrolok zipper, which is designed to be leakproof when properly closed. It is still worth packing it sensibly and keeping the zip clean, especially around sand, salt and food spills. For boating, beach days and the car boot, it is a tough, compact cooler, but it is not a substitute for a dry bag for valuables.

How long will the Hopper Flip 8 keep things cold?

It is built with closed-cell rubber foam insulation for strong cold-holding, but there is no fixed ice-retention time because conditions vary. For best results, pre-chill your food and drinks, use plenty of ice or a compatible YETI Ice Sheet, and avoid leaving the cooler open in direct sun. It is best treated as a premium day-trip cooler rather than a multi-day hard cooler.

Is it easy to carry and use on the move?

Yes, this is a personal soft cooler designed to carry over your shoulder and take with you. The wide-mouth opening makes it easy to see and reach what you have packed, which is useful on the pontoon, beach or campsite. If you are cycling, walking over rough ground or carrying heavier loads, a backpack-style cooler such as the YETI Hopper M20 may be more comfortable.

How should I clean the Hopper Flip 8?

Clean the inside, outside and zipper with mild washing-up liquid, water and a gentle cloth. Let it fully air dry before zipping it closed and storing it, as that helps prevent trapped moisture and odours. This is especially important after salty boat days, sandy beach trips or carrying food directly inside the cooler.
